This sponge painting of a garden is very simple and easy to make, it is especially good for really young kids. I made it with my 5 and 11 year olds and they both enjoyed it.
What you will need! Canvas or paper: We re-used a canvas board that we used previously and the picture just didn’t come out well. A re-used or new canvas board would work well, or if you don’t have that, some heavy duty paper would be good also. Brushes: For this sponge painting we used sponges of different shapes. 
For some of the shapes I bought cheap sponges in a .99 cent store and cut them out as flowers or leaves. We also had some rectangular sponges to go along. A few small sponge rollers for the background. Paint: “My Studio” Acrylic Paint in colors of your choice. We picked light green, white, dark green, orange, purple and blue.
Start by pouring a mix of light colors to make the background with. We chose white, yellow and light green. Then use the sponge roller to paint the entire canvas with the mixture. The colors don’t have to be well mixed, but do need to be light in color. You’re done with this step when the entire canvas looks somewhat like the picture below.
For the next step, using a rectangular sponge brush, and some darker green paint, make a pattern for the leaves. You can arrange them in any way you like. For example you could start thick on the bottom, putting many leaves and grass there, and thin it out toward the top. Below are three different paintings that my kids did. Every single one is different, and every one came out great!
Using the flower shaped, circular, or heart shaped sponges make stamps of flowers in the color of your choice. For us it was orange and purple. The flowers should be brighter and bolder in color, so that they stand out against the background. Same as with the grass and leaves, arrange them as you like on the canvas.
Using white paint, small sponge or brush, stamp on some details. For example middles for your flowers or detailed small leaves, or small flowers. You could also make more leaves or add details to them. Keep adding more details until you are happy with the result. Give it some time to dry, and then hang and enjoy!
